Be a Parent Coordinator

SCAA began with the goal of providing an organized basketball program that would bring together our community's children and their parents. SCAA strives to provide an environment for youth to develop discipline, confidence, and long-lasting friendships. Parent Coordinators are key to helping SCAA accomplish these aims.

Parent Coordinators are the critical link between the SCAA Board, Coaches and parents of players. There must be a Parent Coordinator for each team (2nd-12th grade). Parent Coordinator responsibilities can also be shared amongst two parents. Listed below are some of the duties of Parent Coordinators (PC):

  1. With a returning team, the PC will help the Coach contact the players to make sure that they get their registration forms in on time.
  2. Once the team has been finalized, the PC will make team rosters for the players, coaches and parents so that they are familiar with the other players. If the team is to have treats after the game, the PC will also need to make a treat schedule indicating which player is to bring treats to each game.
  3. The PC will help the coaches keep team members and families well informed of changes in plans, practices and game times, upcoming tournaments and events.
  4. PCs will be required periodically to attend a Parent Coordinators meeting. This meeting usually will take place just before our Portland Tournament.
  5. Board members and officers will contact PCs during the season to assist with an activity (i.e., concession, spaghetti dinner, carnival, tournaments and fundraising). The PC will then need to contact their team to coordinate team participation.
  6. The PC will need to help their coach distribute and collect permission slips for the Portland and Vancouver Tournaments. They may need to arrange transportation and hotel stay for the players traveling without their parents.
  7. The PC will need to remind their players to purchase team pictures.
  8. The PC will also need to remind their players to purchase Awards Banquet tickets.
  9. It is a nice gesture, but not mandatory, for the players to give an appreciation gift to their coaches. Parent Coordinators would organize this end-of-the season activity.

Please help out your child's team by volunteering as a Parent Coordinator. Should you have any questions, please email us at volunteers@scaayouth.org.
